Default Eye on a 2001 Grand Cherokee

Looking at this ad for a 2001 GC, I6 4x4. for $2000
It only has 104000 miles on it and the interior and exterior look very clean.

The ad says the Head gasket has been replaced but the mechanic did not do anything with the lifters and they make noise. Is that a big deal?

Was the 0331 head used in the 2001 GC? like on the XJ?

Thanks.

Yes it has the bas head and the gasket may have replaced to just get rid of it quickly. But that isn't the reason I don't like the 00/01's it all the other things with them, you can search for all the other issues.

I was looking into getting a WJ recently, look for the 2003 or 2004 model years to search for.

Good luck

The 0331 head was used 99- early 02 on the wj,Like said the 03-04 are better for the 4.0.The v8 ones if its been abused its going to have problems,But if its been taking care of you shouldn't have a problem with it.

Thanks for the info and tips....

I am actually looking for an 4x4 XJ, cheap, I missed out on two good deals recenty .
If I have to I will go with an ZJ, Or WJ.

I would like a I6 so that if I have to I can have the engine in my 2wd xj rebuilt and put it in either another xj or zj.

Thanks.

Just remember on the grands the inline 6 got the crappy dana 35 and the v8s 96 and newer got the dana 44a which is not a normal dana 44,The A in its name is for the aluminum center it has and the diff on it is a dana 44hd which is bigger then a normal 44 one is.

Andrew on my 04 WJ with 3.73 gear towing package 4.7HO limited slip front and rear it says the rear is a DRKS D44/226mm on the build sheet no "A's" in it. Would it still be the same?

Yeah the dana 44a is in the zj and wj not sure what the wk and newer uses tho.I don't think jeep ever called it a dana 44a but the ring gear size gives it away.A normal dana 44 ring gear is 8.5 inches or 216mm and the bigger one most call the hd is a 8.9 or 226mm same thing the 44a is and i think the jk 44 is also.So more info on them http://d44tech.com/Dana_44A.html

So what are the best years for a ZJ 4x4?
I keep seeing the years 96 to 98 thrown around.

Thanks.
