Default ever seen this?

Was changing the oil on my brothers xj yesterday and this was the plug. The round part was a cap for the bigger threads. It had a spring valve and my only guess was the PO used some kind of hose to drain the oil out without having to remove the plug. Any input?

Sounds like an old plug that jiffy lube (and others maybe) we installing in the 90s (and maybe later....)

It was meant to make it easier for the oil change crews to basically just vacuum out the oil and not deal with unscrewing the drain plug.

But without a picture...who knows.

Very odd. Napa should have a direct replacment drain plug for < $5.
