well i have located a XJ Engine at a local JY it has some mile on it but it does turn and it looks as if it has been in a roll over no front end damage. anyhow i believe i am going to purchase it to begin a rebuild for when the current engine decides it needs replace. So i am wondering if i should just do a straight forward overhaul or try something like a stroker rebuild...... suggestions ?

if you're doing a rebuild, i would definitely stroke it. won't cost much more, and the power gain would be significant.
you could do a 4.6, 4.7, 4.9 or even a 5.0 stroker with the right parts.

EVen stroking it to around 4.2L will give you a pretty good bump in power. The factory compression is 8.8 I think. So bringing it up to 9.5-10.0 will give your a nice jump in power and efficiency, IE MPG. I would say it almost worthless to do a rebuild that not stroked.
