Default Emergency contact method

The DW (Dear Wife) and I often take our Jeep into areas that are a LLOONNGG way from any main roads or other people. We live in a part of the US that does not have cell service in the areas where we go play with the Jeep. If something were to happen, we don't have any way to make contact to get help.

I have considered satellite phone but this doesn't seem to be a very good option. It is expensive and mostly requires a subscription to work. I will admit that I haven't researched this very well and I may be off on the downside of satellite phones. I know there are emergency satellite devices that you can send prepackaged messages. They don't allow real communication.

I have also considered buying a StarLink Mini to carry in the Jeep. With it I can connect to the Internet and have all the options of internet connectivity. In most cases I could use internet phone calling through my android cell phone, do text and email through my phone.

My idea for the Mini would be to get a Mini, set up an account for roaming, put the Mini on pause until/if I needed it then it I need it, I can activate it through my cell phone and have connectivity to almost anyone, almost anywhere.

Anybody have an emergency contact method? What do you think?

I use he Spot X messenger and also a cell booster. Surprised at the performance of the cell booster.

Look into off grid texting over Long Range Radio, and of course CB radios are a popular option.
