Would it better to be driving my xj jeep in drive or third gear around town for best gas mileage

 

In drive.. it doesn't shift into OD until.like 45mph anyways

 

I keep my in drive too..... I only use third when it's snowing or if I have my hatch loaded down with a lot of weight.

About the only time I use third is when I remember to and I'm off road, or in snow or something like that. Probably half the time I forget to altogether.

I wonder, though... is there any negative to driving in third on a regular basis? Like, overall... greater transmission wear if you just use third regularly rather than drive?

 

i have to drive in 3rd because of my 33's. atleast until i regear. but once i'm over 50 i put it in OD.

but before that i was always in OD, except for snow.
