Mine is like that too. I don't know how in the world it happened. It doesn't hit the roof or anything....I guess the paint was just thin and over the years it has worn off. I originally thought that maybe a hack with a buffer burned the edge but the base coat is still there and it's rough, not smooth.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one like this, I thought maybe it had been repainted or something. There are a couple of other spots, in the door jam that look like this. It's some pretty crappy work for being painted at the factory......

Yeah, and Mine had the paint protection from the dealer and was owned by old people for its entire life till four months ago.

Mine was repainted about 8-10 years ago. Due to a paint recall by the Chrysler Corp. Look into it. Maybe your XJ is too.

 

My trim pieces got torn off. Looks way worse!
