installed the new tire carrier. It uses the factory bumper (witha couple of cuts made) and fits any year XJ. Took some time but it's done and looks good (to me anyway). I can only put 5 pics up but if you want to see more, just go to the album on my profile.

Although I love the Detours setup. Clean and works and you don't need a big heavy bumper to do it.. Looks good bud.

looks great and i like it alot and thought about getting it but i cant see myself spending almost $500 for just a some metal that attaches to the stock rear bumper,its different when you get a whole bumper.

 

It doesn't just mount to the rear bumper skin if you look at the whole install page on their site, its more like you just mounting the bumper skin to the tail bone!

one of the guys that went off roading with us yesterday had that tire carrier on his jeep. it looked great but his rattled where the swing out part mounted into the cylinder. the little bushing wore out quickly, he said. pther hten the noise, he said it works great

Thanks for the compliment! It is a lot more than just wrapping around the bumper though. Check my profile and look at the album I made for it. The pics aren't in order, but it's a pretty good process to get it on. I can definitely feel the back end has stiffened up because of it. The whole setup makes your stock bumper stronger, gives you two d-ring recovery points, and of course the tire carrier. I obviously think it's worth the little over $400.

Did he grease the cylinder? I haven't had any rattles yet (of course it is brand new still).

 

Keeping it greased is the answer, this is the same hinge barrel we've been using for over 8 years on our bumper/carrier systems. Over that period of time I have less than a handfull of failed bushings.

It should be known the bushing is replaceable, it's not easy but it can be done.
