I need anybody who knows about axles to give me an opinion. I have been looking to get axles for a while now. I figured I will not be putting money into my 8.25 as it is completely stock right now. So my plan was to get a 8.8 and build it up . But I found a guy selling a narrowed d 60 with 4.88s and a detroit locker. Says its in great shape. $1,000. Might be a bit overkill for the 35s I was going to run but if I had an axle like that I could just get 37s. But what would be a good axle for the front that is not fullwidth? I basically dont want to get this and then be unable to match a front as I do not have the skills to shorten a front axle. What do you think about the price? I cannot build an 8.8 for this amount, but for some reason i am just leaning more towards a locked 8.8 and hpd30 on 35s. Its like it seems to me that anything over 35 deserve fullwidths, which I dont want. Whats your guy's opinion?

If its 100% good to go, bolt in, cleaned, id buy it. I sold a similar 60 with a spool, deeper, gears and a little rough, for $800.
Is it full float or semifloat? Lug pattern? How narrowed? Whats the wms-wms? Cant reccomend a front axle to match it without knowing these things

Like ktmracer said over kill isnt a bad thing but you probably don't need it. For me i would just buy a lunch box for that 29spline 8.25 you have and wheel that for 35's. Plenty of guys who run that set up no problem, almost as strong as a 44. U could probably find plenty other things to put the money into. Goodluck with your decision tho

Jeep lug pattern, 31 spline shafts, 58in flange to flange, 12in Ford discs, Dont know about full float or semi. What would be better?

you are dumb. 30 spline are most common. 35 spline being a common upgrade.

that is the weirdest sounding 60 i have ever heard of. find out more. never heard of anything 31 spline for a 60. seeing that its 5 on 4.5 its probably semi-float. Honestly sounds like you are describing a ford 8.8 from an explorer.

Ok. I must have read this wrong about the bolt pattern. Or he edited his listing. I am waiting for him to email me back.
Narrowed Dana 60 axle, 5.5" Jeep, Ford, IH, & Dodge 1/2" stud pattern.
488 gear w/Detroit Locker, 31 spline shafts, with extras.
58" flange to flange, 12" Ford disc & calipers, Aluminum cover.
Low milage & gears still look new.
Try to get more info on the shafts and locker. Maybe a part number. Or what brand shafts. It doesnt sound like he knows what he has. Ford dana 44 outers run that lug pattern. But those axles are hella wide. You would have to run ford hubs on say a waggy 44 if you are looking to upgrade the front. Or if you are fine with the 30 then id run wheel adapters on the rear. I wouldnt run any dana 60 unless it has 1.5 inch shafts however. (Usually 35 spline)

Ok. Thanks for the help. I am waiting for a response from him. Probably wont be able to tell me much more then his listing says but who knows.
