It isn't worth the trouble. It is a ton of work. You have a kid on the way. And I really DGAF if you care or not, but I refuse to help someone who doesn't listen. Far from ignorant? Nice ****ing try there too...stop smoking the weed son, time to grow up and be a man.

Hmmm. Grown up, huh? That's why mommy and daddy gave you a rustbucket XJ, without the title? I wasn't rude to you in the least until you copped a 'tude. You aren't grown up because you're immature, not because you ask questions.

I feel there's going to be 2 mouths to spoonfeed here in the very near future.

Holy ****, that's a hole? I thought it was faded paint!

It's done... seriously. Do not waste your time on this vehicle. Part it out if you want, but that thing is ready for the scrap pile.

Don't tell me some ******* passed that for safety

Never said it didn't have a title. I said you didn't get it with a title. If your parents GAF about their new grandchild, they should sell that thing ASAP, and get you a more reliable and safer ride. That thing is not safe. It isn't the rust you see, it's the rust you don't see. It might run, doesn't mean it's safe. Also, go back and re-read the posts. You were the one who got pissy. And you shouldn't assume things you have no idea on....and before you come back at me for assumptions, everything I based my posts on all came from your words.

My friend here is trying to look out for your best interests. We have seen a thousand times the end result of when people dive into vehicles with an attitude like yours. It usually ends up with you trying to sell a hacked-up piece of **** on Craigslist at a massive loss because you can't afford diapers or baby food or something, the hacked up junk won't sell at ALL, and your wife/girlfriend/whatever will hate you. The vehicle is NOT worth putting money into.

It's clear to us now that you're not in a position to spend anywhere near as much money as you've been talking about in the past few days. What you don't seem to understand is that we are human beings, not robots, and so far dozens of people have been going out of their way to try to help you and answer your questions. And when the conversations aren't being taken seriously, that gets seriously irritating and you lose brownie points in a hurry. Everybody starts with a base amount of respect on here but you've been abusing the **** out of us.

We're here to talk, help, and have constructive conversations. We are not magical Internet widgets dedicated to holding your hand through everything. So far you have not indicated that you're interested in helping yourself at all... so why should we waste our time? Make sense?

Okay, young man. White flag. Sorry if I hurt your feelings. Really.

Try to convince your folks to get rid of it. Pick up another if you can.
Good luck.

OK i've read everything here, and there are a few things i'll say.

First, yes what some members are saying may be harsh, but it's for a good reason. Your truck is a unibody vehicle. That means it has no separate frame the body is bolted to - the body IS the structure of the truck, and what it depends on for 1) safety and crash protection, and 2) to keep the occupants, suspension, and drivetrain all connected together.

Second, even from what little you have already shown us via photos, it's evident that the rust problem is very widespread. Floors and rocker panels are fixable, but the body structure is not, at least not for it to be safe to drive on the road with a newborn. The fact that you have a rusted hole above the wheel well means the structure is compromised, and if that spot looks that bad, the parts that normally rust have to be almost completely gone. You're to the point now where fixing it is no longer a viable option.

Third, I've replaced my floors with success. They were rusted out bad, but the framerails and supporting components were all fully intact so i was able to fully weld the new floors in. Your truck will not be the same. You also seriously underestimate the time and work that is needed to cut out the bad and to repair with good steel, and you lack the skill to weld to thin sheet metal.

My suggestion is to get your stuff in order - start saving cash to acquire a new vehicle. If the engine and drivetrain are good, you can part some of the truck out and make some money off the components, and the sell the body for scrap. This should make you a decent chunk of change to put towards a new ride.

Sorry man, we try to advise everyone to fix these trucks up since we all love them and hate to see them junked. Yours is just too far gone to save. Even if the tables were turned and it was one of my vehicles, the condition of the unibody is just not safe or viably repairable, and it would be parted and junked. The way it is right now, if anyone ever crashed into the truck, it would literally crumble and offer you and your passengers next to no protection.

Good luck with whatever you do - whether you choose to heed our warnings or not.

I wish someone had given me advice like this when I was young.

Focus on family, career and life now. Make a plan to be financially fit and stick to it. Save money and build your credit. Then when you're more mature with solid financials the world will be at your finger tips and you will be much better prepared to enjoy it. There will be plenty of time to play and do all these things you're desiring and honestly you will enjoy them much more later in life if you work hard now.
