Could use your input...good deal for 31" Baja MTZ?
Ok Dudes, i again need your stellar advice.....
So i'm piecing together my 3" lift....maybe get everything in the next 6 months. So i've had my eye out on CL and other places for bits and pieces. I came accross this set of 31" mickey Thompson Baja MTZ's already mounted on stock Cherokee rims.
here's the CL ad. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/pts/3807017875.html
i asked if theres any issues with the tires, holes, patches, dryrot, etc.
The seller said there's no issues. Tires have been in the garage for 5 years, and are probaby 8 years old. Hold pressure.
From the pictures, the tread looks great, and so does everythign else.
My only concern is with the age of the tires, and the fact that they've been sitting for so long. but for the price of $200 OBO, with wheels, it's an offer i can't pass up. Maybe i can get them for $150?? i'm planning on going for 3" lift, and i realize that i may need to get a new set of rims with more backspacing to clear....'might'
Anyways, what do you say, shoud i go for it, or does this seem to good to be true. This will be my DD, see highway speeds frequently, but also run on light trails in the weekend. Any and all input is helpful!

I'll definitely be checking these out in person.
Is there anything inherently bad with tires of that age if they were stored properly?

Gee... anyway of checking for dry rot... short of removing the tire from the wheel and looking inside the physical tire? Any visual clues on the outside of the tire to look for?

They are baja mtx, not mtz... I was gonna say I didn't think the mtzs came in anything smaller than a 33...i know baja claws don't..
With those tires I would check for dry rot definatly. Check the code on the tire and see how old they are.. When tires sit they tend to dry out. Unless they were kept sealed in trash bags..

Thanks, i'm definitely going to be looking for dry rot. Honestly, the more i think about it, the deal almost seems to good to be true...kinda afraid of the tires condition on the inside eventhough it looks near perfect with treads. Since this is my DD, and i drive highway speeds everyday, i'm nervous about a tire failure at 70mph...dry rot and such. if the XJ only saw mud on the weekends, i'd go for these tires without hesitation. I'm going to check them out in person, but i'm hesitant now.
