Question Could this happen?

I was at a friend's house and her dad wants to sell me a Dana 35 from a wrangler, so I can use it on my XJ. He told me that he's put really good gearing in it. (I don't really know why he wants to sell me a Dana 35 when I have em' in my XJ already)....well besides make money of course.

What I want to know is, does a Dana 35, width wise fit on an XJ?

You already have a Dana 35 under there. Unless it's a Dana 44, which is better. Assuming this is for the '89. Either way, the 35 isn't called the 'turdy-five' because it sounds cute.

Sounds like you already have a Dana 35 rear axle. I would not worry about it unless you want a spare axle. As far as gears, you just have to put new gears in your differential (front and rear). If you are looking for better gears, it depends on how much he wants to sell it to you. If it is a good price, buy it and buy the same gears for the front axle. Either, way you would have a spare Dana 30 axle. Just an idea.

Remember that if your ride is 4WD, than the front & rear gearing has to match.

depending on what year the wrangler is. TJ has coils in the back. that means you have to weld leaf spring perches on it.

I personally won't buy a d35 because there a waste of $ unless you don't plan on putting bigger tires and lift on it. But what exactly did he do to it for better gearing?

I have no idea what he did to the gears. He just asked me if I wanted a wrangler Dana 35 for $100. But with me just being outta high school, no job yet...I don't have the money for that.

I think I'll just stick with mine.
