Cost of a full XJ tune up?
My Uncle is a unemployed ASE mechanic certified in lots of stuff. He's getting ready to do a complete tune up on my 94 XJ auto this weekdnd. Including every filter, flush all fluids, ignition everything, plugs, oils, yada yada yada. If it can be done he's going to do it. Including fabbing and welding in some frame stiffners front to just in front of the shackles. I'm paying for thhe the stuff he has to purchase, but he told me to pay him what I thought was fair for his time and labor. I HAVE NO IDEA. The last thing I got a tune up on was a 98 Camaro Z28 and it was like $300 and I've never had anything fabbed or welded...Any ideas?

Wow... I thought you where asking how much it would cost for parts...
It wouldn't work going by shop rates because that isn't what a mechanic will make.... Some googling and I find an ASE certified mechanic can make anywhere from $18-$35 per hour depending on location and experience... Hope that helps?

I'm not including any of the parts/fluids. Where applicable he's using Royal Purple and Mobile so pretty good stuff. If the part has an upgrade I'm getting it. I just dont know what to pay for labor, he's the kinda guy that would be happy if I threw him a hundo, but I know it'll take him most if not all of the weekend and I don't want to rip him off. Expecially because hes unemployed right now. I may be mis-speaking, but I was told at one time he was one of like 5 guys in the country certified to weld gun silencers too, so his welding skills are no joke. That was awile ago though.
Anyone?

Sorry Razor, didn't see your post. $20 x about 15-20 hrs. $300-$400...? I know it would be more than $100 for a fabbed and welded stiffner though. I guess $400. Hopefully I don't **** him off. He's got a lift so I want to make sure I'm on his good side.
