convincing the parents.....

I know better than to go behind their backs. I'm going formal on this. Cost differences safety issues etc all laid out in a paper.... Its their jeep but I doubled the cost on it. My dad said he will chip in because it needs at least new shocks but I have to pay the rest. Any ideas to add to the pro side for the lift? Thanks for all the support

Good, I'm glad you do know better. haha. Other than the cost factor, I'm not sure of a way to convince your parents that the lift is a better option. I'm going to get flak for this comment, I'm sure; but it is hard to sell something like a lift kit to parents when it isn't a necessary item. Good luck though, and keep us posted!

then tell the chick that until she buys you a car then.... well you get the hint
just my 2 cents.
edit:
oh and i had a xj stock, and an xj with a 3 inch lift and it drove about the same so your parents have nothing to worry about and good luck convincing them on it if your going to do it the right way the good for you

I would say you could use the weather as an excuse for your lift, if you get big snow, but seeing as how your from arizona....tell em you want more bounce when you hit the dunes! haha Cost is definitely on your side, and you could tell them that with a wider set of tires, you'd create a similar center of gravity as a stock cherokee, and still be more capable off-road.

Deal with the springs.. Get el cheapo Shocks for now..
save your money for when you turn 18..
The irony of this.. I'm working on my fathers rig.. and he keeps bugging ME for a lift..

yeah my xj actually drove better after the lift because it replaced a lot of worn out components and you dont really have to adjust your driving unless your offroading off camber situations

well the whole girlfriend situation goes like this: she doesn't like lifted trucks cause she has to get up in them. I told her with 3 inches she will step into it equally ( she's not a fat chick either 5'7" 110 aha ) but is a big part of my life we have been serious for awhile. Now the question is do I go with the basic 3" rc lift or series 2 lift?

Get the three inch lift, do what YOU want to do. Deal with the repercussions afterwards, atleast you'll have a nice Jeep to look at
And as far as your gf, I don't see why she would have any trouble getting into a 3" lifted Jeep, my gf is like 5'6" and has no problem getting into my jeep with a 5.5" on 35's. Basically, you guys are all way overthinking this.

3 inches is by no means tall. my chick is 5'2 and when i had a stock jeep she was fine with it and she got in it after it got a 3 inch lift just fine too.
i changed my mind...
the save til your 18 thing is a good idea, get stock replacement parts for now then buy a 4-6 inch long arm kit when your 18 itll be worth it, i just built mine and the flex is ridiculous

While your parents have a say, You have to be patient.
BUT, you can modify your rig to be an awsome offroader while maintaining stock suspension lift. Stock tires are 28" tall a 31" tre will give you 1.5" of lift, 32" more. Trimming and bumpstops give you the tire clearance. After market control arms, trackbar and disconnects give you more flex. Armor to protect the undercariage.
When you OWN the Jeep, you can lift it, IF you still want to.
