Unhappy Convince me to keep my XJ

So lately, I've been pondering selling my XJ. It has become more of a lost cause lately...

Basically, the body is slowly dying inside & out. It looks good from 10-15ft, up close..not so much. I've already replaced the engine, attempted to fix the floors, about to replace my 2nd AW4 this weekend, and..not counting the $1000's I've invested in it with accessories/mods as well as maintenance items. I'd hate to get rid of it, since I've replaced almost everything. But I don't feel like I can keep up with the thing, since it's constantly breaking something. The sad part is..I barely get to wheel it.

I'm kinda torn on what to do, I love my Jeep..yet I hate the thing haha!

Do you use and enjoy it when it's running?

When it's working as it should I love it! But it seems like it's broken and sitting on a side street more than its being driven. I've considered getting a bone stock one in good shape and swapping my parts over, but I'm not sure if that'd be the route I'd wanna take.

I guess the biggest concerns I'm having is that, I'm going to be on my 3rd tranny now in under a year. I don't abuse my stuff more than any other person, just normal driving. I don't see how I'm killing these things. I'm running 33's 6.5" lift on stock gears. I don't really run it hard, but I feel like that combination is not good for daily driving with occasional weekend wheeling.

Buy another one that is mechanically sound and has minimal body issues. Swap your parts over, then sell the old one (with the stock suspension parts) to someone who is just looking for a cheap set of wheels to get from A to B. It will help offset the cost of you buying the new one.

My XJ has been one problem after another as well. I have an antique pickup as a backup vehicle when my XJ is down. Unless you have a new, stock Jeep, you need a second vehicle / parts runner.

i agree, i am fortunate enough to have my dads buick lesabre sometimes, but in all honesty, i know how your feeling about your jeep being a PITA with breaking down. it seemed like all in the same day, my rad cracked, two of my tires went flat, and the acc rad fan went out. being fixed soon though

keep the XJ, otherwise youre not have the permission to enter heavens gates if the time comes
then you go to hell and drive with in small japanese honda or nissan car. Always stuck in the mud then cause hell became too wet to drive for 2WD cars

in heaven you have nice big mauntains, nice long empty highways, no speeding tickets, and fuel for free.
in hell you pay more then 8 dollar the gallon, only muddy roads and long traffic jams, and for just one mile to fast youre getting an 100 dollar ticket

sounds almost as europe

edit: forgot to tell, in heaven there driving only jeeps. so no japanese dinkytoys

hahahaha! I love the heaven speech!

I do have a backup vehicle, however it's just as expensive to fix at times! 91 Mercedes 190E

It's difficult to find a parts Jeep around here for decent prices or even a sound Jeep

I honestly don't wanna get rid of it, but everytime something breaks that wasn't caused by my own stupidity or ignorance it drives me up a wall! I don't mind the basic repairs and such, its just these tranny's kill me!

I agree with most others here, sell it and get a better condition XJ, or buy a parts Jeep and swap it all over. But selling and buying another one will save you a LOT of hassle.

Honestly, I love my XJ more than any other vehicle I've owned. And that says a lot having owned a:

00' N2O GT Mustang with all the goodies

01' Procharged, 6spd Cobra making 454whp

And my current 04' SRT-4 making 355whp.

It's nice having a trail rig that you don't mind about scratches or if it stays dirty for a while, can pile up 5 of your friends in, cheap *** insurance, and overall easy to work on. Perfect daily for those with a rather short commute to work.

Keep it, you'll end up regretting selling it and losing money by doing it. Is it really worth throwing out thousands of dollars and hours of work for a few hundred bucks?
