Default Compared to late model Jeeps

Our '98 XJ 4.0L is our 1st and only Jeep, so nothing to compare it to, Jeep wise anyhow. We are very pleased with it so far for it's intended use. It's no hot rod but does seem to be very peppy. My ? is, to those that own/have driven late model 3.7L/3.8L Jeeps, how do they compare performance wise to 4.0L HO XJ's?

I owned a 2006 Liberty (V6 3.7L, automatic) for a couple of months. I got rid of it before the winter though, so I can't tell you how it does in the snow...The 4.0L feels faster, stronger and seems cheaper on gas then the Liberty was.

the 4.0 is a legendary engine that will easily run past 300k miles if taken care of, they didn't build 3 million of those engines for nothing. The 4.0 is a brute, built for use in 4wd offroad SUVs, small pick-ups, and the Wrangler. Things will take a hell of a beating before giving up.

the 3.7/3.8s are minivan engines, literally they started out in minivans and have infected the whole Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep line-up. yay for cost cutting.

Edit: there were 5 million of the 4.0s built

the 4.0 will kick the crap out of the 3.7/3.8. I've driven some libertys at work and was very unimpressed
