Default Clearing water out of engine

Now im not sure if this is ture, but some guy told me that when he used to flood his old Land Cruiser that all he did was take out the spark plugs and crank the engine. Then the water would shoot out of the holes where the spark plugs go. Does this even seem like it would work?

If the engine was shut off JUST after going in than yes that is the best way, if the engine stalled and the intake was at or below water level than in likelihood it would be hydroed.
