NOT ALL JK OWNERS, BUT A MAJORITY. The reason I say that, Lee already outlined above, these are the guys that just want to flex their wallets to look like a badass, won't ever wheel it for fear of getting scratched and dirty, yet look down their noses at everyone else NOT driving one like them...and brag about how much this cost, and how much that cost, how many LED's they got...because it's a status symbol to them...nothing more. They could care less about the off road community in general. Just because there's a tag that says Jeep on the body, does not mean an it's an all-inclusive pass into the jeep "family", IMO

Some of the guys here know, but for those that don't, I'll wheel with ANYONE, no matter what they drive. The group I go to KOH with every year is a prime example, there's everything from vintage sandrails to full blown tube buggies in our group...old CJ's that are beat to hell, Sammies, S10 pickup trucks...and you know what? They all show MAD respect for everyone on the trail...but as soon as you get back to camp, they all talk smack on each other, and laugh it off.

So here's what I'm gonna say on the subject. Take the smack talk tongue in cheek...if you're sensitive about things said on the internet, grow some thicker skin...I'll compare it to television...if you don't like what's on? Change the damn channel.

and honestly, in my area the jk owners are rude. 90%. Couple weeks ago parked next to a stock jk. It was woman's in her 30s and she was sitting in it. My jeep is mostly stock atm, so I told her "loo k at the 20 year difference or so". She literally told me the the only real jeeps are wrangler Rubicon. I'm not lying, that's a representation of most jk owners I come across. And me, I don't care whet you drive. I didn't pay for it. But don't put down others. I also don't think a jk is nearly as good a platform overall as the xj, but just my opinion haha.

let me ask you something. Yeah your newer jk is probably nicer now, no issues. But in a few years when it starts to break down, will you be able to work on it? I'm just curious because I've worked on a few and they aren't easy imo. I wouldn't be able atm that's why I ask haha. Well i could, but not with as much confidence as with older vehicles. My 2010 truck doesn't need the work my xj needs, but I dread the day it does haha.

I've said before that 3.8L is a great engine. Only problems I ever saw out of them was the headgasket popped if overheated. They had good power and fuel economy for the 3-4k lbs vehicles they were designed for. Only problem with usage in the JK was the JK was heavy stock, then people add tons of armor and larger tires, don't properly regear and then complain about their mileage being terrible or transmission problems. SMH...

To XJguy and others, I will never ban you or anyone for having a different opinion or thoughts. The key is that we can have these conversations as long as they remain civil to each other. IE: Don't resort to playground warfare "You're an idiot or dumb for thinking...." I stated my thoughts, you stated yours and never did we reach those level of antics, just good debate.

Now back on topic here. I just don't see any good coming from Jeep going overseas EXCEPT they will probably get an industrial diesel engine to power it instead of the CRD's. When I was in Korea for a couple weeks, they STILL had these "Jeeps" based off the old CJ2A and 3A platforms except they had newer Mitsubishi diesels. Great on fuel and couldn't stop those things. So maybe they could design a more efficient engine for the heavy platform.

Screw CHICOM, I would love if somehow the Jeep brand broke off of Chrysler and got back into American hands. Like some dashing young entrepreneur bought and ran with it.

As long as we're discussing our fantasies, I wish someone would buy not only Jeep, but also the AMC brand, then make an updated version of the '68 Javelin to compete with the Challenger and an updated AWD Eagle to dominate the segment all these little crossovers are positioned in.

The Eagle was a remarkable vehicle given the very limited resources that AMC had to work with. I've owned a couple of them over the years. In fact my XJ is a replacement for my last Eagle wagon that gave up the ghost a couple of years ago.

I owned an early 80s 4x4 Eagle (just like the one in the post above), and then a few years later got an 84 XJ. They actually shared many components, and my Jeep actually had AMC logos all through the interior, including the steering wheel. Even though that Jeep had the 2.5 motor, I always missed it, and wanted to get another. So 25 years later (or so)...I did...and now I am here.

The 360 and 401 will go anywhere the 304 will. Just sayin'.

Eagles never came with factory V8s though. It would be tough to keep the 4WD if swapping one in. At least on six-cylinder models the front differential is bolted to the side of the the engine block (not sure about 4-bangers) and there were no V8 crossmembers. So custom fabrication would be needed. (BTW, early 4.0 blocks still came with the mounting bosses for the Eagle diff.)

Years ago a friend had an Eagle Kammback which was quite literally a 4WD Gremlin. Only made a couple of years and very rare these days.

I said 304 only because they're harder to find than the 360 or 401. Hard to find engine for a hard to find car, double score! Lol.

This thread can't be serious. We're getting sensitive about vehicles that everyone wants to know what tools and parts to carry around and once it hits 85°F the front page gets lit up with "Halp! Muh engine is cranking out enough heat to power a community college!"
I'll talk trash about any vehicle, particularly can't stand Jukes, but I'm not going to get riled up about criticism of an XJ. Let's be honest with ourselves.

Back decades ago in my gear head days there were always somewhat friendly rivalries between the Mopar, GM and Ford guys.
The rivalries were usually settled at official drag strips or more often the unofficial drag strips. LOL.

You know trash talk like:
F.O.R.D.= Found on Road Side Ditch, Fix Or Repair Daily
G.M.=Gimp Motors
etc.

Back then no one ever got there feelings hurt at least with the crowd i hanged out with.

Don't know whats going on today with the younger generation getting their feelings hurt all of a sudden.
Some young intolerant punks even rioting because they don't like other's 1st Amendment free speech as seen on the news these days.

Don't know where our Country is headed but it don't look good.
