Default Cherokee's becoming popular again??

First off this isn't about the new minivan cherokee just the old one.

But I wanted to get you guys opinion on this. From reading around on here it seems like our old model Cherokees could be making a come back. I know some of you say they are becoming more and more of a demand. What you guys think? I know for sure I'm going to be holding onto mine forever.

yeah definitely. cheap, easy to build, reliable, look somewhat sporty in stock form. around here Cherokees sell almost as fast as Hondas. on craigslist one day gone the next. theres always at least 5 or 6 at any given time on my college campus. definitely been making more and more appearances in magazines over the last few years

I agree. At my college, there's like 4 lifted ones rolling around, including mine. I never knew they were such a hot sell.

theres a guy in my area who is a regular at the state auction he strictly buys the Cherokees that are no longer used for state parks. they are crisp white with black trim. all the paint and interior is mint and they all have low miles. I've seen years 91-00 with 70,000-140,000 miles on them. he always has like 4 of them parked in front of his house and turns a huge profit on them

I think they were always popular. Over 2 million were made. Cheap, reliable, easy to work on is a good combination. Parts availability was a big reason I bought mine. Then my inlaws got a 97. And I got a MJ now too.

Unhappy

I have a 97, and a 98, I plan on holding on to for along time.

There were 258,958,,, 97s produced, and

182,845,,, 98s produced, and then sales went down.

2001 sales had 120,454,,,,,and then,

Still 120k in vehicle sales isn't exactly chump change especially considering they've been selling it since '84. Lol

If XJs are indeed becoming more popular, I think I've helped. I refer EVERYONE to XJs whether they like it or not lol. I've got a few people to buy them. At first I thought whoa, I should stop, there'll be no XJs for me! Then, I realized, anyone who's buying a secondhand XJ is saving it from a junkyard death. Prolonging its life lol. I know there so many if em out there but no matter what, they will one day be more expensive, rare and just harder to find. Hopefully that's not for a while.

You are right DieselD, 120K was still plenty on sales.

1984 to 1990 = 1,005,756

1991 to 1996 = 964,453

1997 to 2001 = 913,963

Sometimes I look at the used Cherokee's for sale on Yahoo Auto which is where I found mine, I notice the prices are creeping up, especially if it's sold by a dealer and has low mileage (less than 100k mi.)

The Cherokee prices seem to have about caught up to the Grand Cherokee prices of the same year and comparable mileage, where as the GC's used to resale for more than an XJ.

At least it's like that in my area.

Even though Cherokee's seem to have a cult like status online I doubt they'll ever command big resale prices like a 70's Bronco, 70's Land Cruiser, or Jeep Scrambler.

There's too many of them out there, and I don't believe they have near the build quality of those 3 vehicles.

Here's a Scrambler for $27,000 but I don't expect to see XJ's this price for at least SEVERAL years/decades if at all.

Every time I see the figures I grin a little bit.

40,000 more when AMC ran things must be some AMC loyalist out there. I do see more 91 and up in the wrecker than 84 to 90.
I do see an upswing in the amount of XJs' I see on the road. Most people I talk to bought them because you can treat them like a truck, easy to fix, and left stock 20mpg is a constant.

I've been thinking the same thing. I'm seeing more and more modified cherokees in my area as well. Saw 3 nicely built xjs today alone in my travels.

In my area I always like to think it's because of me lol . I was the only one in high school with a modified cherokee. Now I go by my old high school and there are 3 or 4 cherokees out there lifted and ready to go. I SWEAR I started the angry eyes fad.
