Is a Cherokee for me?
So…
I’ve almost talked myself into selling my Frontier and buying a Jeep. I like the idea of using what would normally be my car payment, to make my vehicle “more me”.
I’ve been reading and reading here on the board. I’ve got some good info so far, but haven’t found a lot that directly answers some questions that I have. Hopefully yall can help. Heck, maybe this will help others that are on the fence.
I have a “list of demands” for my next vehicle –
I need to tow a 16 foot utility trailer, and an 18 foot camper (one at a time, of course). I need these to be stable at 60 mph.
It will be a daily driver that will need to get me from point A (home) to point B (work) to point C (fishing hole / kayak launch / trailhead). Some point C’s require 4WD.
I’d like the interior roof to be long enough to keep 7’ fishing rods mounted inside the vehicle. I’ve seen people on here keep the rods there, but there’s no mention of what size they were.
So would the Cherokee be a good fit? Are there certain models that wouldn’t work at all, vs. some better suited for what I want?
Thanks in advance.

you'll be fine. the xj has a towing capacity of 5k pounds. but that's at stock height with towing package including a tranny cooler and class 3 hitch with stabilizer bars including the stock sway bars in place and use of trailer brakes.
for the weight you have listed, they can be towed safely with a mild lift, tranny cooler and a standard class 3 hitch.
i'd go with an auto, but if you want a standard, try to find one with 3.73 gears. most sticks have 3.07 gears and can be a dog in the hills.
