I was bored reading through the international threads and had a thought is the diesel cherokee from anywhere but the good ol' USA that hates diesel vehicles able to legally be shipped and registered here? always wondered that.

yes. I was looking at doing it only with just the engine. The rules that i found said that i could do it as long as I labeled it as a modified vehicle like I would do with a street rod. I would imagine that if you brought a full rig over you would have to have it inspected and licensed like you would any other vehicle that is imported. I didn't dig to deep on the import of the whole vehicle.

check with importers near you. They might help you with more of your questions.

You can google some major vehicle importers and ask them. They have alot of them in the LA area. I have been to one. Most of the time they will answer any questions and give you a rough estimate. They have t inspect it and bring it to US safety standards sometimes requiring a bit of modification. But since all cherokees were roughly made the same it might be pretty easy. You should try to import one with the factory dana 44 front and rear(yes i said factory dana 44 front axle)
