Cherokee biuld thoughts.
Well if we are going this far I would not cheap out with a 60 and 14bolt.
May as well go currie or custom built yota axles.

693hp and 777ft-lbs from a Jeep 4.0 block (well bored out, stroked, and turbo'd).

The only half way easy diesel swap is a vw one. They make a adapter kit to bolt it to a ax-15 which is a stick but motor mounts your on your own to make. The sad part is that diesel don't make more power then a stock 4.0 and the aftermarket for it is almost none.If you want cheap power a old chevy small block is hard to beat for the price.A 383 stroker beefed up 700r4 np205 would be hell of a combo. But you would need better rear ends like a 14 bolt and dana 60 to handle that.

The 4ltr is a very low compression engine, you need at least 16:1 compression for diesel to ignite. Not going to happen with the 4.0.

I'm going to have to say that with the tire sizes he is talking about, he could get by with a set of UPGRADED stock axles, even with a healthy V8. Of course, that is assuming he has the 29spl 8.25. If he has a d35, I would skip the 8.25 and either install a 31spl 9" or a 31spl 8.8.
I don't think this is going to be an offroad rig since he said his main goal was to be able to smoke a set of 33's. Throw some bracing and sleeves in the d30 to help hold the weight up (even though a v8 is nearly the same weight as a 4.0), make sure the rearend is up to the task, and have fun...
Personally I am going with a 302, t18 4 speed, and np205 as soon as I can find the appropriate bellhousing. I'll run the d30 and 8.25 until they crap the bed and consider my options at that point.

You will have upwards of $10k in just the engine and then you will have to spend quite a bit more to have your transmission built (look up toyota supra automatic builds, same transmission)....
Sure, they made a ****load of power, but it's kinda like the car mags taking a bone stock gm 4.8 or 5.3, strapping a big *** turbo on it, and making 1500+HP... ya, it does it, but it will not hold up

Dougyfresh there is other options like running a adapter kit that's 400 bucks and use any gm trans.A stage 2 700r4 would be like 1500 bucks or less or a turbo 400 will do too.

Ok. So.. Alot of mixed feeling here. I don't mean I want the turbo and all that but I'd like to be lookin at about 450 hp. So. HO or ls?
Dude, I was just joking around. You asked if anyone had built a 4.0 so that link was my response. If money isn't an object, I say keep it Jeep and build a stroker. Sure you can make more power out of a LS swap but then you have to swap trannies too and custom and work and what not. Which if you are going for different is cool and all, but what is the ultimate goal here?
Check out this site:

and this one for some basic recipes:

So build a 4.7L stroker and regear to 4.88 and keep it Jeep while still have more power then you need.
EDIT: I see you want 450hp which if you are just looking for horsepower I would swap in an LS. Although a supercharged stroker could be pretty amazing...

A stroker would be less work then a whole drive train change its really up to you.Or if you want a diesel bad find a 94-97 f250/f350 cheap those had the good 7.3 powerstroke in them.
