This is what I'm currently working on...
(not to scale)(measurements in inches, may not be exact. Still in the concept stages)

Using some OSB board, plywood, or otherwise I will fabricate a very simple 2 part box structure. The two boxes will be tied together. It will house several compartments. The exterior will have grey, exterior grade carpet. This will proved a smoother look, edges, and functionality. The lid will have 1" of overhang, so I can pull out the cargo box, and use it as a part time workbench. It will then swivel back around, forming around the pass. side wheel well. The scrap wood will be used to form the compartments, via dividers.
Four hinges will be mounted on the back, so it can open, as well as a prop to keep it open. One latch will be at the front, to keep it closed. I was thinking foam rubber padding can be placed an two compartments, they will be cut to size and fit both; metric, and SAE sockets. I haven't quite figured out the rest...

I was looking at some of the JCR panels to close in the rear cargo area but dang they are pricey. Barnes has a ready made shelf that looks nice too. Home brewed is probably the way to go. I was once in a minor wreck as a back seat passenger, driver rear ended a box truck that was stopped, I think we were traveling about 35-40 mph.. but my head was struck by battery charger that was just sitting in the back and it really sucked. So now I try to always secure anything hefty so that it can't just come flying forward in the unfortunate event of a collision or roll over.

Needed more storage. Tools and parts in one side, recovery gear in the other. Mounted the air compressor on top. Still room for cooler, table and what ever on top. Way over built.
