Default Can you pull your key out will driving around?

I realized today that I can pull my key out with the engine running, driving around, etc...I think I can remove it from any position on the ignition. Is this a common thing or is something broken?

That's kind of what I thought, just didn't know if it was a common problem. It doesn't really bother me because it still has to have the key to start up. If it didn't, that'd be a problem!

one issue I could see is if it is really worn down it might not actually need the key, just something s tuck in there and turned.

May just be a part that holds the key in and not the actual lock portion but worth considering.

I never lock my ignition and never have to use my keys. Only time i use them is to lock my doors, kinda pointless tho because my rear hatch doesn't lock. as far as the ignition goes my jeep has one of those old dealer plugs under the dash that if you unplug it the starter doesn't work again pointless because its a stick and they could just push start it. If anyone wants something bad enough they will have it so no point in worrying lol

I have 2 sets of keys for my Jeep, one set pulls out and the other will not....maybe the key is just worn.

I never thought about it being the actual key. I'll have to try my spare and see what happens!

Not on my 86* but the late 80s ford pickups don't need it In the ignition at all I like it, I figure if someone is going to steal an old ford or old jeep they have a ****ty life and will die soon,

And I live in a small town so they wouldn't get far before I found it, I leave my cars unlocked and the keys In them most of the time, ideal situation, doorless and keyless
