CAI for $60
x3. Good start on it, but without a heat shield you'll just pull hot air from the engine and actually be worse off than the stock air box.
2 options for you:
1. fab up a heat shield that forces the intake to pull air from outside the vehicle (fender, wheel well, hood vent) rather than from the engine
2. route the intake outside the vehicle (a-pillar snorkel, cowl intake, etc). Big thing here is to not make the intake any closer to the ground than it is already.

Mounted mine in the stock air box with a little modification to keep it safe from water and then wrapped the box in that reflective aluminum tape to reflect the heat off.Uh ...and its not a TRUE cai btw

Ok I just want to get my facts straight, I always thought you needed a heat shield to have a true CAI also. But then my friend that has a tuner
has a CAI on his with no heat shield and I told him that it will just suck in hot air. He then proceeded to show me that after about 30 min of driving you could get out and put your hand on the metal intake tube and it was not even close to being warm. So whats the deal? Thanks

ThanksAir coming through the grill or something? I know on the newer Duramax trucks, when they pull, they remove a headlight to suck in air from outside the engine bay.
