Default Buying a used locker?

Alright I was looking over Craigslist today and found an add for a used OX cable selectable locker for a D30 $300. All the add says is that there is surface rust on the cover and that it needs a new cable. I don't know much about lockers but to come across a selectable one for $300, might not be able to pass it up. What do you all think about this deal? What sort of questions should I be asking them about it other than spline count, age and gear ratio? And is this something I could install myself?

Any advice / schooling on lockers is appreciated

Check the price of a new one and the price the cost of a new cable on top of the three hundred dollars the guy is asking. If the price of the new one is within a hundred bucks including shipping I would buy the brand new unit. I don't trust buying used stuff most of the time.
You will want to know what year this came out of. There were changes at around 96.

Buying a used one is like buying a used toothbrush not a good idea.

I just looked up the price of a new OX locker...almost 900 bucks. The cable is about 70 dollars. So you would pay less than half for the used one as long as the cable is the only needed part.

I have no problem purchasing used parts, just as long as they're quality parts. Thoroughly inspect the locker. Like stated before me make sure the cable is the only thing that needs to be replaced. For the price it's a steal. If the seller is a jeep guy and it's local to you try recruiting the guy to help. Besides the fact he's familiar with this part, you can make a good wheeling buddy

I ran a cable operated ox for 1 season. I spent more time adjusting the damn cable than I spent locked. Final straw was pulling the cover for an oil change and watching hardware that had been installed with loc-tite come tumbling out.

Save your money.

I think I might pass on the deal, I figure with my lack of knowledge about lockers I could end up getting screwed. Plus it worries me that he didn't post any specs on it at all, vague adds are bad adds. Here's the add if anyone else wants to go for it though, thanks for the advice.
