buy a 92?
i am thinking about buying a 92 cherokee, its really nice looking, been kept up, but has 289k miles. will it run for much longer without a new transmission? I dont have a ton of money to put in to it, but can gradually fix problems if they come up, just not sure, is it gonna be a solid car for commuting to work?

My first Cherokee was a '92. If it was maintained, 289,000 miles is just getting broken in good. As long as they are maintained well, the 4.0 liter engine and AW-4 transmission are almost bullet-proof.
My 92 just hit 270,000 and runs like a champ. If the underside isn't rusted out and the engine sounds good and it shifts good now, I say go for it. All the other parts are easy to change and 92's are still of the old ways before certain little things got weird with jeeps
P.S. definitely be prepared to make good on that "gradually fixing things that are wrong with it"
Once you pass 250 you're giving it a second life and that means some organ transplants
