Default Building of roof rack need ideas

So I'm building a roof basket in my highschool welding shop and I need some help such as
How high most are? I'm thinking around 7inches between top and bottom
Diffrent mounting methods?
Stuff like that
I'm using 3/4 square tubing 1/8th walled bent into a triangle 57x47 the size of the stock rack because I want to get rid of that altogether

Mine is out of 1" sq tubing 1/8" thick. It's HEAVY! I can't just take it off even with 2 people. Have to strap it up to carport beams, drive the XJ out, then lower it back down. I have all dimensions in my build.

You could easily search and find all the information you need. Fabrication threads are for completed builds or builds already in progress.

Not how the fab section works, take a look at the rules. Once you start building, by all means make a post and show us.

This is where I'm at so far bottom rack is made of 3/4 inch tubing 1/8" walled 57x47" started bending the top rack I'm making it 50x47" that way I can mount 4 lights for the trails n a pice angled to help the areo. While driving far distances since thus is my DD I'll keep this updated but I'm allso looking for ideas as I go

I really like the way that looks I was gonna do the same thing with the one inch but we lost the 1" pice for the jig and couldn't bend it

I made mine about 3 and a half inches tall. I don't like the look of super tall racks so i used a more shallow design. If i put alot of stuff up there I can just use rope to tie it down. The top of my fog lights are taller then the rack itself.

What are you guys using as the bottom? I'm thinking 2 inch flat stock or expanded metal
