Default Bought a cherokee at last

Hi guys
I'm new to this forum. Just picked up a very fresh 98 4.l xj for€500. Only 110k miles on clock. Living in Ireland. Drives fine but have noticed she does lose power on acceleration for a second or two and then kick forward. No other issues with same. Any ideas.
Also I did a coolant & oil change. Managed to snap off oil pressure sending unit trying to remove oil filter. Someone had installed filter really tight. Anyway glued
Unit back together until I get a new one. Will this work ?
I'm getting the check gauges light on since. I'm assuming its the damaged unit causing this as I don't seem to have any oil pressure. Is vehicle still ok to drive?

The glue might stop it from leaking but I wouldn't actually expect the sender to work afterwards.

The check gauges light and no oil pressure are likely the result of the broken sending unit. Like camchaneyxj253 said though I would probably get a new sending unit on there before you drive it far, you don't want to be in a position where you don't know if you've lost oil pressure (particularly since that glued together sending unit could come apart at any time and if it does you will loose all your oil in a minute or less), and it is possible (though rare) to get a defective oil filter and have no oil pressure right after an oil change.

Don't even start it till you replace sending unit and are ready to check to see if ir has oil pressure.

Welcome!

ThAnks for the info guys. Will replace sending unit first. I'm hopping to put a 3.5" lift from FullTraction and run 33" tyres. Anything I should look out for.
I already have a TJ that's well modified but suspension in XJ slightly different.
No experience with leaf springs. Also will dana35 hold up to 33"tyres for street
Driving. I've heard the Dana 35 is pretty weak.

Yes for a DD the D35 will work fine for you its whenyou put bigger tires, gears, lockers and go for some heavy off roading. Then the D35 can be an issue if you decide you want a stronger differential look for a Chry 8.25 with 29 spline axles. That is what I'm running in my "99" came stock in it 4 1/2" lift/33x12:50x15's.4.56 gears and Detroit Lockers.

If you go to the 33's a 4.56 gear will bring it back to about stock tire size. With a 3" lift you "might" need a transfer case drop kit to get the pinion angle in better shape but its only $25-30 for it or if you want more an SYE.

BTW Welcome to the XJ world!!

Thanks for info. Was wondering if I can swap in a 231 t-case or is there any point? Not familiar with the 242 t-case. I'm putting an atlas 2 in my tj so the
231 in it has a SYE already. Anyone know if swap is possible ?

Yes you can swap in a 231, you'll also need the shifter gate, linkage, and bezel in addition to the case itself.

The main difference between the two is that the 242 has a center differential which allows for the "full-time" 4WD setting. The 231 is a little stronger and has much more aftermarket support though.
