You can check out my build from way back when. My cousin has a metal break, so I cut some scrap metal and bent a 'shelf' to mount it on. That worked good to mount the manifold and solenoids. I cut up the spare tire mount and added some brackets to that to mount the compressor. My 34's wouldn't mount inside anyway. It works well.

I'm thinking of using a long, thin regular air tank that's about 8-9" dia (really don't know, have to measure it, but it's close..)

I'm wanting to mount it in front of the axle to power my air horns. Just can't decide weather to mount it longitudinal or sideways.

Don't the rice rods have bottle mounting set ups for their NOS tanks ? I wonder if someone could figure out an air conversion,

I put mine in my roof basket. I think it's a nice look. Always get questions about. But that look isn't for everybody. Especially if you're after a clean build. If you go on the roof, spend a few extra $ for an aluminum tank, you'll never even notice the weight up there.

I carry a portable Viar air compressor and a extra air tank in the roof rack when going off road mostly to loan out.
