Default Block heater

For those of us in the northern climes, a block heater might seem like a good addition.

So, does anybody here have a block heater recommendation? And if so, how's it working out for you?

Im in the middle of the mountains in northern Maine where January temps are WELL below 0 most of the time with -30 and colder not being uncommon for a couple weeks. I do not have a block heater and never felt the need for one. Maybe in the Yukon or some place, sure, but for the continental US, whats the point?

My mom used to live outside of billings MT, about 75% of the vehicles there had them.

I had no idea what they were, I always thought, plug hanging out of the grill= diesel. I made a comment about how weird it was to see so many diesels and was told that they were block heaters and "you pretty much need them if you don't have a garage."

I live in the U.P. MI. and don't have a garage.

The Jeep will be parked into the Northwest wind.
However, I have a bad *** extension cord and a blanket for the cowling.I've seen -52 before... -20 lasts about a month.

EDIT: My Wife's car has remote start... my XJ doesn't have that luxury.
