I am told they're good in snow, loose dirt and behave well on the road, but aren't so great in sand unless they're aired down, and aren't good in mud because they clog up.
I've got em on my XJ and so far have not had any issues, though I haven't done any real wheeling.. I drove out of a ditch on about a 45 degree incline with no tire slipping in 4 Low once (rather than wait in line to leave through the driveway at a wedding I was at), been in a little bit of mud and didn't get bogged down.. and they drive well on the road.

My Walmart is running them on special right now for 78.00. I was gonna pick up a set. Maybe not.
Depends if you wheel it at all. If you do, find a set of mud terrains on craigslist. Can probably even find a set already mounted on Jeep wheels for less than $500 in good shape. "All" terrains are the exact opposite of their name. Just about every all terrain flat out sucks on anything but the street or sand. You will be stucked and ****ed on the first banana peel you come across. I don't know about you but I ended up in a few ditches and ****ty situations at 16-17 and it's nice to be able to get out.

Take a look at these. http://www.kellytires.com/cfmx/web/k...fm?product=316
They are pretty cheap and I believe Kelly tires is ran by goodyear. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it's a bit pretentous to say that all A/T's are crap offroad. I run these and do some decently challenging wheeling on occasion. They do what A/T's should do: provide acceptable traction in mud, snow, rocks, and pavement. If you're on a limited budget, a moderately aggressive tire with free road hazard and a 50-60k treadware guarantee for less than $130 a tire is pretty ideal... I should know!

BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A's to replace your stock size tires should run about $150 a piece or so, which is pricey, but not so bad considering that people have managed to get 50k miles out of them with regular rotations and proper inflation.

Before switching to my 33's I ran a 31X10.50 BFG All-Terrains and had no problems in snow or sand. Never did any mudding with them but they did perform well in snow and sand. Of course I did air down to about 18-20 PSI when driving in snow or sand. But they did grip good. And they last a Long Long Long time compared to most other tires.
