Ohh that explains it. But where can I find my directional fluid level? I think I'm running low because my directional has been flashing rainbow colors.

You must have put in prius directional fluid... You need to flush it out before refilling with the correct fluid.

Looks aftermarket to me. The 97+ keyless entry is integrated in the PCB above the overhead cab lighting.

Looks like I'm going to be doing some investigating this afternoon to see what's in there.

This.

There is no visible sensor for the 97+ keyless.

Unless that was a 97 only thing.

It is NOT the keyless entry or sentry key, I have that and a 99. There's no thing on my ceiling.

Its NOT cruise control. That's vaccum and is under the bumper.

It IS aftermarket or has something to do with an overhead console that was previously there.

It's definitely not after market. I pulled a headliner out of a 96 and it had the dark globe on there. On the back side is just a circuit board. It was factory mounted. I had no use in my 92 and left it in there to fill the big hole in my headliner. And all the wires go into the factory wiring harness that goes to your dome lights and vanity mirrors.

I'll pull mine apart and throw pictures up since mines not being used for anything lol

Someone who has this in their Jeep could get their build sheet from chrysler. It would probably be on there, you'd just have to look for it. Whatever it is.

Comparing 1996- to a 1997+ is useful how, exactly? There were significant changes.

Editing.....sorry I forgot I read that about the infrared system. Sorry salad! Haha

Again... that's for an infrared keyless entry system that Chrysler installed on XJs ending in 1996. In 1997 they changed to an RF system colocated with the overhead light.

The government passed a bill that year where in car surveillance features came standard even if they weren't used. Cool find!

9294Forrest 05-01-2013 11:24 AM

I have if keyless entry , I do not have this!

9294Forrest 05-01-2013 11:25 AM

I think that is the backplate for the smaller overhead console

There's some glue residue on the plastic so I would guess something must have been glued or mounted to it prior to when I bought the jeep.
