Yes

But 4hi in the 231 is no different than 4hi in the 242.

Didn't know that. I probably would still just pull over and sleep till someone came to my rescue.
Thanks!

No problem, its actually a pretty good bandaid when repair is not an option at the time.

In fact, if you snap your rear driveshaft. You can put a plastic bag over the tail shaft housing and secure it with ducttape or some rubber bands to keep the fluid from coming out. And drive like that as long as needed.

i asked because both options in the 242 are technically 4hi just part time vs full time some people don't differentiate when speaking ( i know i don't half the time)

me too. Sometimes mine is so fast I create wormholes and I have to be careful to not time travel, it's a real pain in the *** to get home when that happens...

I heard that's using 4hi on a 231 is good to get you off the start but at about 25-35 MPH you should put it back into 2wd.

Any merit to this?

You don't need to unless you are trying go into 4lo, I will got into 4hi as long as I am under 25-30MPH, but per owners manual you can do it as long as you are under 45MPH.

And I love how fast mine is, I enjoy accelerating very fast from a red light.

I thought I was crazy when I thought mine was a little peppy. I have gotten some pretty strange saying that " hey my Jeep is kind of fast" ha. but the fastest I got it going was 112 it wanted to keep going but when all the other cars are going 70 you catch them pretty quick =/

I find myself doing 10 under more than doing 10 over. Seems like so much more work to get it going that fast. Plus I almost feel my fuel economy going down....
