The only welding I did was on my crossmember. I added a place to bolt the tranny mount too, and anyone that ones a Jeep ought to know someone with a welder.

You don't need any of the stuff you listed.
Hand tools, impact gun (not needed but handy to have), floorjack, some jack stands....stuff you should easy access to or own already.

1/2 day rental of an engine hoist is $20-30.

It ain't voodoo and black magic.
I believe you bought your motor mounts didn't you? So I guess you wouldn't have needed to cut/weld/fab your own mounts. I assumed purchasing and doing a full rebuild for any engine would be around 3 or $4,000 alone. Add to that a full exhaust. Lifting the jeep so the engine has enough space to fit. Modifying the hood or the accessory mounts to fit under the hood. Looking through some of your build thread it definitely didn't seem like a cakewalk. Although i'm sure with chuck norris helping you it must have been easier than changing the oil.

Are you serious? If it were a cakewalk, everyone would do it.

I don't believe I was saying it was. I think I was just pointing out its not as easy as just dropping it in. But ok.

That's why I did the write-up on it. There weren't any instructions or people willing to actually share there experiences (good or bad). It was a huge learning process that I want to share with others so they wouldn't make the same same mistakes I did.

Yeah I think your thread is the most well put together. I can't remember everything you did off the top of my head though. I actually may have went that route if I had seen your build thread before we went with the stroker but I think I'm gonna be satisfied just to have it running again.

Night-n-Day

The V-8 is hands down the winner in all categories.

instead of v8 have you thought about a diesel swap? might not be as fast as a v8 but you will have a lot of tq and get decent mpg to, and the right diesel set up can last twice as long as a gas engine

Yeah, I did a bunch of research on diesel swaps before settling on a v8. The overall cost of a diesel swap vs power/mpg really isn't worth it. I love diesels and it's amazing what a simple tune can do for the newer trucks but, it's just not economical for me. This jeep will be getting used for expedition/overlanding so every penny I save, goes towards more gear.
