Another one bites the dust
Hey, folks. Haven't been around for a while for a number of reasons, but I decided to check in and post a picture of why I won't be around for a while. Ah gots no Cherokee. I got a fractured knee-cap instead.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...b2ee9c9e08.jpg Yeah, I think that's a total. Some idiot pulled out in front of me when I was cruising down the highway @ 55. No time to do anything but nail the brakes, but it wasn't enough. Cherokee vs. old Suburban? Yeah, he won. In the last 6 months or so I had just done the head gasket, lifters, oil cover gasket (Felpro), oil filter adapter gasket, water pump, t-stat, hoses, radiator, belts, tie rod ends, ball joints, rotors, pads, calipers, drums, shoes, battery cables (upgraded) and a few other miscellaneous things. Engine was running 145-150 compression on all cylinders. Trans was on its way out, and I was getting a howl from the rear end, but otherwise, it was in good shape. I was planning to swap in the trans and rear axle from my 94 that I have been slowly parting out, but I guess I'll just finish parting it out, now. A moment of silence, please. :icon_cry: |
Man, that sucks. Hope you can find another that you like.
|
Moment of silence. Sorry that happened. At least you made it out to talk about it.
|
Yeah, I love airbags!
First day of a week's vacation, too, with plans to get away with the wife. Now I'm not going anyplace for a while. Leg needs to be almost completely immobile for 10 days. |
Damn, I bet that hurt. Good luck for a speedy recovery.
I'm impressed the airbag went off, assuming it was the original. RIP one Cherokee, it gave its all! |
Man... Good to see you are OK Sir! What a mess... Looks like you got back in the saddle and went right back to work on it!
Edit: My mistake... I didn't read that right and thought you had done all that work after the hit, not before. Sorry man... Hope you get better and back in the saddle soon Sir. :) |
Well you know what they say...you’ve got to put your behind in the past....no it’s, put your past behind you! Speedy recovery. Guess you have to look at the bright side and say it could’ve been worse.
|
Whoa! GLAD your ok. Been wondering where you got to. Planning on getting another one soon?
|
That sucks, but glad you are mostly OK.

But, I really need to get my pickup in reliable, DD condition, so I'm going to focus on that for now. Money is tight. OF course, it will be 4-6 weeks before I can even drive, so.... no hurry. The killer is, I just passed up a 99 in prime condition for a GRAND even (yeah, $1000), because the guy had personal problems and needed to get rid of it, quick. :wallbash: |
Glad you're ok. You can always replace a vehicle but not good people.
|
Glad you made it, fractured knee cap sucks and I hope you make a complete recovery. Unfortunately rust & nincompoops are what kill Cherokees.
|
I know what you mean when your DD eats it big. I had to bum rides and borrow my brother's Hilux for half a year.
I hope your knee gets on the mend soon, and your insurance gets it sorted out. nothing worse than them letting you down after you grease their palms for all those years. |
Im glad you are ok! gnarly looking crash for a jeep. Thats why i want to keep my airbags in my vehicles it isnt cool to get rid of them for a fancy steering wheel imo.
|
Make a camper/trailer out of it?
|
After recovery what are your plans with your jeep?

Still in limbo. Probably part it out. I replaced a ton of stuff last year. New front end (ball joints, tie rod ends, etc.), new front brakes, (calipers, rotors, pads), new hubs, new rear springs, new shocks all around. New windshield, too. Interior is in good shape. Heh, well, the dashboard is kinda rough now, from the airbags going off. New lifters, head gasket, and valve cover gasket on the engine. New oil filter adapter o-rings. New coil, distributor about two years ago. But we'll have to wait to see how the legal stuff settles out. The other guy's insurance (Nationwide) is playing hardball. I wanted to work with them and leave the lawyers out of it, but they don't seem to want to be reasonable, so.... |
out of curiosity what did you price your jeep at? If you were to sell it because it looked very nice
|
I haven't priced it at all. It's still being debated with the insurance company.
|
Glad your ok. Sorry for your loss though. I would be interested in your front seats depending on where you are/shipping costs
|
Check shipping costs from 22603.
I have no idea how much it will ship them to earth, though.... ;) |
Virginia. I'm in ohio I would almost be interested in driving to pick up I'm in southern ohio. Only 5 hours 37 minutes away from me. What would you have to have out of them and what kinda shape are they in
|
I'll let you know when there's a decision on the vehicle.
|
Just saw this thread. Glad you aren't badly hurt, Mark. Sorry for the Jeep. Good luck with the insurance stuff.
|
Thanks!

Well, after a lot of kicking and screaming and pulling local ads to support my position, they finally offered a reasonable amount. Not what it will take to replace it, but reasonable.
Irish, I'll PM you about the seats, so we don't fill up the forum with our chit-chat. |
It kinda hurts when you spent so much time, labor and money on your jeep only to have it wrecked but atleast you donate parts. Hadd someone i knew just scrap his jeep that had mint interior.
|
Yeah, my interior is in pretty good shape. I wouldn't call it mint, but no tears or rips. Just a bit grubby. Well, the driver's door armrest is losing its padded cover, but otherwise, it's fine.
I put a lot of work into it last year. Brakes, headgasket, lifters, front suspension, and more.... |
Let the scavenging begin!
|
Mark,
Good to see you didn't lose your life nor your sense of humor. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and a suitable replacement of the Jeep. |
Thanks!

This reality has hit me up side the head a few times in the last several years. |
