Default Almost at 200k miles.

I'm 3rd owner of my 96 Cherokee and its about to hit 200k miles. My rear main is starting to leak and I have a mysterious intermittent transmission problem. Other than that she runs like a champ. What do you veteran owners recommend I do for 200k maintenance? I heard the 4.0 is almost un stoppable. I don't want to waste money on un necessary work but I don't want to wait until something breaks. Thanks and happy New Years.

Tune-up, all filters, all fluids, refreshing all grounds, grease all zerks

Also, make sure that is where your oil leak is coming from. There are several points above the rear main that can leak, drip down and look like a rear main leak

Only 200,000? You're just breaking in!

I'm the seventh owner of mine, and it's about to break 215,000. Mostly just proper maintenance, keeping up on things, and it should keep going for quite a while.

What's the intermittent transmission problem?

Other things that would be great to check and replace as necessary - brakes, belt, all bushings, all u joints

Other things - clean the throttle body, run some injector cleaner, use Seafoam through the intake, clean the IAC, flush the cooling system (block, radiator and heater core)

Transmission problem: good days runs like a champ, shifts smoothly , no slipping. Bad days higher than normal rpms in all gears sometimes if I shut it off and start it up again it goes away, sometimes not.
