okay I'm going to buy a lift soon, whether it is pieced together or a kit, so currently I'm doing a little research like we all do.. I'm comparing prices online and will also give my locals the opportunity as well...
I go to a very popular site and do the estimated shipping once I had everything I wanted in the cart.... $175
are you serious?? I had just checked shipping on a previous site and it was $60 with identical parts...
I was a little bent so I decided to send them a polite email..
(paraphrased) "I've heard from others your shipping is inflated so I thought I'd give you the benefit of the doubt, guess they were right as you're WAY higher then everyone else" (paraphrased in a nut shell)
they responded, (paraphrased) "we ship in several boxes to keep things looking nice, others ship in one box and its trashed.. and we only sell quality parts everyone else's stuff is from overseas, maybe you can send me your zip code and I'll see what I can do, but if you're not interested in quality and don't mind oversea parts I understand".....
I'd rather not say who they are because I don't want to seem like a troll especially if they're vendors here, but to lay out a blanket statement like that and say all others are from overseas?? come on...
maybe hes right as I have yet to find out where the RE, RC and others come from but I may just do that...
My whole point is how many people are turned off by the crazy shipping, what a scam !! I buy steel online ALL THE TIME and have about 80lbs sent to me for about $20-22... the difference maybe is packaging this comes in 5' shipping tubes about 6" in diameter...
dunno, but I'm floored a "reputable" company can do that to their loyal customers, yeah 3 TIMES HIGHER in shipping...

If they're too stupid to not ship as one unit and are going to bash every other company on the market while being blatantly wrong then I wouldn't bother with them.
Sounds like Rusty's if I had to guess.

Sounds retarded. Many companies get their parts from Mexico since they have a large market for car parts there and labor there is cheap. Mexico certainly isn't across any seas here in the USA.
My Rough Country kit came with shocks from Mexico and I know for sure that the springs are not from overseas...
My stock leaf springs were from Mexico too lol.

after thought::
and if they are a vendor here and read this thread he'll remember our emails, and maybe he'll step up and explain to everyone why they don't want our business by inflating their shipping 3X higher then the competition...
rant off....

this seems like a cry for attention with the title then to just gripe about shipping costs...it costs money to ship things get used to it or feel bad for the car enthusiasts in foreign countries who HAVE to have their parts shipped overseas all the time their costs are horrible but guess what they do it and dont start threads about it

Its more of a rant/vent then a gripe, and I understand shipping and handling and all .. but I'm not in a foreign country so I "we" shouldn't be treated like so...

I manufacture (small parts) so I'm able to include shipping in my prices, and charge a flat $10 fee overseas, but this is easy because they're typically all the same size...

I looked at lift kits from a re-seller in the southeast (the same one you are talking about) and 4wd.com
My RE lift was shipped truck freight on a pallet, for less, and faster than I was quoted for a cheap, piece-together lift from this company.
On another occasion, I was ordering front spring spacers. Shipping was more than the parts from the company you speak of, and was quoted on almost a week worth of waiting for parts to arrive.
I ordered them from FrankZ @ seriousoffroad, paid less and had them at my house by the 2nd business day.

I have recently purchased a lift kit, and unfortunately the grief sorting shipping and custom's etc made me think sod it,so I ended up ordering from English company which probably cost twice what same product cost's in the states.
Even though product is coming from America originally.
It's a fact of life people want convenience and are willing to pay for that.
Try and buy cheap products here for jeeps, doesn't happen, but then jeep is American so accept the fact.
