I have a 2" lift on my '98, and in my humble opinion, I think the factory Jeep "Ravine" wheels and the Firestone Destination AT 235/75-15 look good on it. They are very quiet on the highway, pretty decent off road and on wet roads, have an aggressive enough look to fit the vehicle, let me get 20mpg on the highway, have enough sidewall to smooth out the bumps, and were $600 for the set.

Indeed, the photo shows how well the wheels fit in the wheel arch. And to be honest I wouldn't mind less sidewall! However, note that my XJ is the older style and has trimmed fenders...

I'd really like to get those rims I simlated though!

Oh, and 235/75r15 is a tire bigger than the stock one, so that isn't technically very legal for me and I'd like to have it as legit as possible...

You sound like you want the rims no matter what anyone says. So just get them and be happy. See if maybe you could wheel the tire up against the jeep and see if it looks decent.

HA! Guilty as charged...

About spending the money, I thought that I could always sell the rims if I didn't like them and get second hand tires to start with... Once they get worn out, get the same or bigger tires or return to stock wheels...

Perhaps I should consider this as a long "test"?

I'm very grateful for everyone's input, however. It's true that when I ask here my mind is somewhat already made up, but it's great to read your opinions and thoughts!! :-D

Many thanks CF!

Well, perhaps you didn't really care seeing as you tried to change my mind, but here it is... 19" rims on a Cherokee!

I don't think it looks too bad! ;-) I do have severe DW now...

BTW It didn't cost me too much... I got both rims and tires second hand. The tires rub a bit at full lock so I'll adjust the steerstops... I was however extremely lucky to find rims that were 100% compatible (bolt battern, center bore diameter, offset and backspacing) that looked good and had matching finish!

so you payed money to ruin what little fuel economy you had, slow your acceleration, lose turning radius, and give yourself extreme DW just for 'looks' on an old xj with a dirty paint job of all vehicles??
I'll never understand. but I guess if it didn't cost to much and you're happy with it...

Well, I had DW before, especially with the stock wheels, a bit less with the 30" M/Ts... I wouldn't have invested in brand new equipment for such a vehicle, and the paint job isn't dirty?

Just saying this isn't a long-term solution. Just until I sell the XJ for another (when I find a 5-speed 4.0) and to avoid wearing the brand new M/Ts that came with it when I bought it... And yes to have a bit of fun!

What do you think putting bigger tires and a lift does? ruins fuel economy, slows acceleration, decreases turning radius (aftermarket steering), and most lifted vehicles get death wobble. So at least the owner had guts to ask on a cherokee forum, no one ever said this was offroad only..mall crawlers everywhere anyways.

and it doesn't look as bad as i thought it would haha

That...actually looks pretty sick. Would look really awesome on a slightly lowered 2wd 5 speed XJ.

my point being that it's just for looks. bigger tires on a jeep are obviously for performance dumb dumb. you put them on to go further off road. big rims and low profile tires have no point

Different folks different strokes, I like them and not everyone wants to go off road and beat to death their Cherokee. I personally think half the crap I've seen on this site is repetitive ,done halfassed, and looks terrible but I respect other people projects . Closed minded thinking like this reminds me of the thread where the guy wanted to race his 2wd Cherokee in 24 hours of lemans and people were giving him crap for wanting to lower it instead of lifting it and it was sacreligious to build something other then a off road Cherokee. If every XJ had a 4 inch rough country lift, soft eights, cut fender, some type of bed liner, then it would be a boring hobby...........oh wait..........

Got a side shot? Interested in how it looks. And are the wheels black? Looks like it has a blue-ish green tint to it, might be the grass or something.
