Default advice on my sound system

So with my new jeep all the speakers are stock and they work but I'm looking retire these 24 year old bad boys and upgrade for better quality. I can mount speakers in my doors, hatch, and headliner sound bar. Since I have to replace them all I'm going to start with just the doors and soundbar for now and later get something for the lift gate. The plan is to mount some 5.25 coaxial on the doors and 5.25 comps with tweeters on the sound bar. I've heard people say comps are better up front. Or should I just go all coaxial? Any advice is appreciated.

Hello,

Yes it is true that comps are better. But often this is because when the tweeter is made separetly it is made higher quality giving you better sounding highs. Though, honestly if you arent looking for anything ridiculous and especially since you are coming from stock speakers, coax will do you just fine. They will sound much better then stock and are easier to install. My adivse to you is: save money and go with coax if you aren't planning on installing a 4 channel amp. And as for front and rear. If you don't have anyone driving in the rear, you really don't need rear speakers.

Here is what I have discovered regarding the factory XJ sound system, specifically on my 1996.
If it came with a soundbar, than it will not have speakers or wiring in the hatch, but the grills may be there.
Up front, look for grills on lower dash, driver and passenger. These are for tweeters. If no tweeters are there you may still have a live harness for them above hood release. I discovered this harness and installed tweeters in those locations. Have 2-way, coax in doors

I have a sport 2 door it's pretty basic but I haven't looked for the tweeters but I'm sure it has them. The sound bar I'm using was a junkyard purchase so it came stock with lift gate speakers. I'm pretty excited for the sound bar

Yeah for now I think I'll just go coax speakers. I'm not trying to have a competition system but I do love the sound of clarity.
