Default Advice on 2001 Cherokee Purchase

Hello everyone, first time posting. Hopefully this in the right section. Apologies if not.

I've been eyeballing this cherokee on craigslist for a bit and want to check it out. Price seems high, what do you guys think about it?

Any tips for things to look for? I intend to test it out today.

I read the sticky, so I understand that this is not always cut and dry. I would appreciate some input though!

for 7k? uhhhhh NO. maybe 4500. Maybe. Its a clean rig for sure. 122,000 means its about ready to crack the head(or it may not) regardless 7k is WAAAYYYYY to much.

Look for a 98-99 XJ

The 00-01 XJ's usually came with the 0331 head which is EXTREMELY prone to cracking and is the most common killer of those rigs.

98-99 was the best IMO, 98 specifically because they produced more "cali-emission" XJ's in 99 (4 O2 sensors instead of just 2 for the earlier model years).

if your going to buy 00-01 do your research. The heads are prone to cracking because of a factory defect.

That being said, owning a 00-01 XJ Is like have diabetes. It's manageable with proper care and attention, but if left unchecked you'll lose a leg!. i should know I have an 01. I'm Wilfred Brimley and I have diabetes!

Thanks all! I'm fairly new to the used jeep market, and I've been checking out XJ cherokees and wj grand cherokees. I'm actually looking for a 4x4, and didn't catch that this one was a 4x2 so I passed on it anyways. I'll probably avoid this model year though, to be safe.

cool, I wouldn't avoid a clean 00-01. The internet tends to sensationalize things. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Alright, so I was at work today and spotted this:
https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/6063803124.html

Not an XJ, but I was looking at WJs as well, and it looks and feels clean. I drove it, having it inspected tomorrow. Price is great for this area. I have a hard time finding anything else at this price that isn't much higher mileage.
