loooked at a cherokee the other day liked it a lot and am going back today and getting it checked over by a mechanic. I already know the a/c dosent work (he says recharge but who knows) buddy is a jeep mechanic will do it for me and i know it needs rear tires. its a 99 classic with the 8.25. what are some things i can/should look for and tell the mechanic to check out. the underneath is very clean for being a eastern Pennsylvania vehicle

I did the same thing... Said I'd never need anything bigger than a 31. now I'm about to fork out another 900 dollars cuz I don't feel I went big enough the first time :-p
My '99 Sport has an A/C leak form the manifold line, just needed a recharge and it's cold again (for now obviously). Every one I looked at with the 4.0 has a valve cover leak, mine was at the right rear and was pouring out, easy and cheap fix though. Common to have rear main seals leak too. Good solid engine and vehicle though, just keep in mind it's 13 years old.
No rust on Mine but it's an AZ vehicle.
I've fixed all the leaks on mine (rear main wasn't leaking yet) and haven't regretted a thing.

got it checked out it needs an a/c compressor, fan belt, valve cover gasket, exhaust behind the cat, brake lines, wheel bearing and some other stuff, buddy said its gonna run 1500 offered 2500 he wouldn't go lower the 2750 he had somewhere to be and we would've just left a deposit gonna give him a call tomorrow and try and work out a deal.

I think that sounds like a decent price. Belt is easy, so is the valve cover gasket. You can get a set of steel braded brake lines for around $100. A/C compressor if it's just leaking you can recharge it until you have the cash, unless it's pouring out. A/c is always a little iffy to me if it isn't cold ayt all because it can get pricey fast. Then again I live in AZ so you have to have A/C here.

Guy said the Clutch stops working when it heats up not that it's leaking. my buddys dad runs an autopart store so i can get a discount and he's a certified mechanic working at a Chrysler dealership right now willing to do the work cheaper. a/c isn't that important in NJ more of a luxury might even wait till next summer to fix

he went to 2750 and we were at 2500 we agreed to split the difference haha. waiting for him to mail us the title so we can register here and bring the plates instead of making another trip back. my dad won't let me just slap plates on it.
