Default '99 Cherokee stock speakers

Why would Jeep put such small, 5.25" and only 4 speakers in these Cherokees?

They didnt. Some xj's, like mine, came with 6.5" infinity speakers all the way around, tweeter's up front, and an amp under the rear seat.

You got a great option, there's a huge difference between those and some paper 5.25" junk, there shoulda been an inbetween setup. Anyways, I like loud rock & roll, so I'm puttin in some rockford fosgates with my new Sony deck, that should be somewhat of an improvement, but 61/2's woulda been better but I don't wanna do any mods.

The stock infinity speakers didn't sound very good to me so I replaced all of them except the tweeters.

since we're on the subject are there any good and inexpensive direct replacement 5.25 speakers and the rear speakers? Mine are starting to show their age and I don't feel like messing with amps and bull****.

I replaced all mine with these:

Amazon.com: Infinity 529I 165W (Peak) 5-1/4 -Inch Two-Way Speakers (Pair): Electronics Amazon.com: Infinity 529I 165W (Peak) 5-1/4 -Inch Two-Way Speakers (Pair): Electronics

Infinity Kappa 52.9i

Not bad for a small speaker. Bass response is decent.

Had to drill a couple holes for mounting screws, but that was it.

Well when i bought mine, i dident have any speakers at all, i guess they stole them from the other owner. anyways if i did have any speakers on there now, one would go on the driver side door, and another on the passenger side door, 2 in the back hatch. and 2 tweeter under the dash. Put when i get some money going ill have my selfs some kickers door and back hatch speakers, with tweeters. and 2 12's kicker comps. Yeahh BUddyy!
