The outside temp will display on the overhead console you bought.
I am thinking that despite you having a more basic XJ that the connector would still be there but...

I ended up taking it to an autoupholstery shop. From searching this site, the cheapest I’d seen was $150 but since I have a separate sound bar I’d figure it’d be a little more. Found a shop that’ll do it for $200. While it’s being replaced, I figured I might as well order some noico sound deadener and insulation and put that in myself to help with cooling down the inside.

 

I got a guy and cost me $125 for doing the headliner with me taking it out though.
But he is a customer of the auto parts store I work at so guess I get a little "friend and family" discount. LOL.
I did the same thing. But with me it was a more "Well while we are here" thing.
Really did not care.
I splurged and bought the Dynamat. I did get it a few dollars cheaper then it would have normally cost though.
I tried to research this and a few people said that doing much over 25% was kind of a waste.
So I elected not to do full coverage either. Again didn't really care.

I did put a layer of some closed cell foam in there too. Just some pool crap from Home Depot that was an 1/8" thick.

 

yea that’s what I read as well so I just ordered I believe 36 sq feet. I sleep in my jeep when I go on fishing trips and I’ll try anything to help reduce the heat inside.

 

As part of my "While we are here" thing I did other parts too.
Added Infinity Tweeters and replace both door checks in the front doors so I did them.


I replace all my regular glass with factory privacy glass so while I had the rear doors open and the plastic in the cargo removed did in there too.





And even though I did not have to go into the hatch for anything I did in there too.

The thing I did was tap on sections of the doors, rear quarters and hatch.
Determined where I was going to put the pieces of Dynamat by the sound.
I believe the term they use is resonance noise.
You could just tell by tapping a panel where you did not do it and tapping the same place in the other panel that it does make a difference.
Instead of a tinny sound when tapping it using the Dynamat made it more of a thud.
As of yet still haven't done the floor. Thinking of using some of that foil stuff.
Thinking of doing full coverage there but I don't want it glued down.
Figure just lay it in, get it to conform to all the nooks and crannies, and then just lay the carpet over it.
What I would really love to try is getting the rubber floor from a Police Version XJ.
Lay that down instead of the foil stuff and see if I can get the carpet to lie properly on top of it.
Thing is never have seen the rubber floor in the boneyard and the time or two that it has come up for sale it has been really expensive.
And not local so......

 

After reviewing the parts book, it's look like 97 was the only or last year for the separate speaker enclosure.

 

You know I keep on forgetting about that.
'97 being a transition year.
I get the feeling not all '97's are like that.
That at some point in '97 they do have set ups like '98 and up.
Just a feeling though.

 

I did the roof of my Subaru with the 1/8" closed cell aluminum covered HVAC stuff from Lowes. I did two layers over the entire roof. Made a good difference in the inside temp when parked, and in how quick it cools off under A/C, and in how cool the A/C can keep it when it is 110 and SUNNY out. If you do that, wear gloves or that aluminum backing will give you dozens of little cuts.

 

Hello, my husband is replacing the headliner in our Jeep, and we removed what looked like the foam but it was coming off in big pieces, peeling, so we peeled it all off, and were left with what I assume is fiber glass. Do we need to cover that with something, or a new foam will do the trick?

that's what I used, then sanded it down it worked good and didn't melt the fiberglass. Took me a long time as it was my first time working with fiberglass and resin.

 

Just use the resin, mix, and brush/roll it on.
