Default 96-earlier bumper on 97+

I have seen a few pics around this site where folks have put pre-97 bumpers on 97-later XJ's. I absolutely love the look, and my fiance got me a pre-96 bumper and end caps for Christmas (how I truly love her). I haven't taken mine off yet, but when I put the new one up to compare it, none of the bolt holes match and it doesn't look like it will be a very easy swap.

So, would someone who has done this swap give me some advice? Did you have to remove the lip on the rear of the 96 bumper? Thanks.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but, I believe you have to change the mounts too.

Oh ok so I have to change the mounts? They bolt directly to the subframe, I assume? Like I said I have never taken the bumper off of a Cherokee so I dont know what I'm getting in to. I'm trying to figure out how to do this so I can get the parts I need and change it all out in one night, rather than having to tear it down and drive it a day or two.

Will I have to mod the mounts or is it a bolt up deal from then on out?

Thanks.

Yes they bolt to the subframe. No mod necessary.
