Default 93 Cherokee loose sloppy steering

I have a 1991 cherokee w/auto transmission which was totaled by a rear fender colission. It has 145,000 on it but still runs good. I'm coverting to a flatbed. Problem: Steering is very loose and sloppy. It handles kinda like those electric bumpercars at the fair. Are there any cheap fixes with junk yard parts?? thx

first you need to figure out what is wrong with the steering. there are many junkyard upgrades to look for, once you know what needs replaced.
then, as for your flatbed idea, an xj is unibody, so that won't go over very well, unless you tube the whole rear end, or at least a full cage.

Default steering flatbeds etc

Thx,
Re: Flatbed on this 1991 not '93 as my 1st post said. I have u-bolted the "kinda-frame" coming into steel plate inside, then building up a roll bar and platform truss system above the wheel wells, all out of 1 1/2 square tube gusseted where needed. I've bolted 2 1/2 inch channel to the frame out the back to extend the bed and 4" channel from bumper mount to bumper mount to aide in support for the backward extended hitch. It is about time to cut the top off and build the back of cab and bed which will tonque and groove encased in angle iron.

I'll post some pics eventually. Having just been laid off a year short of retirement eligibility, this project is just what I needed.

Any suggestions as to the best service manual for the $?

Thanks again
