92 XJ with 155k miles?
Hey guys,
Ive been looking for an XJ for a long time. Most of them have close to 200k miles, cost 5-6k, or BOTH. I recently came across this 1992 cherokee with 155k miles. I can get it for 1500, but I dont know if it's worth it.
What kind of price range is acceptable for 90s XJs between 120k and 160k miles? What issues should I look for with those kind of numbers? If you were in my place would you look for something better? Thanks in advance, hopefully I'll join the community soon!

I bought mine with close to 240k miles, and it's still the most reliable thing I've ever owned. Ive heard of the 4.0s going 300k+ with good maintenance. I'd buy one with 150k in a heartbeat, the price isnt bad either. About average price for what they go for around here. I'd try to get the price down a little if it were me. Check for rust, especially the floor pans and rockers.
As long as its solid and runs good, I'd buy it.

I got my '93 for $1600 with 190,000 miles on it. Tough to find anything in New Jersey that's under four grand, for some reason. Mine was abused for most of its life, Carfax tells me it's been in three reported accidents (one while still at the dealership!), and I'm the seventh owner... but it's still ticking along now, a year later, at 220,000.
When I got it I did a bunch of preventative maintenance: replaced most of the cooling system (water pump, fan clutch, thermostat, thermostat housing, new fluid, etc.). Also replaced a rusted-out passenger floor (it's apparently common for them to rot out above the exhaust system).
Mostly, I'd look for rust and see how they were with maintenance. I'd also run through my normal checklist for a used car... engine noise, head gasket hints (bubbling overfill tank or the chocolate milkshake on the dipstick), make sure the brake lines aren't shot, bla bla, stuff I'm sure most everyone already knows.
I say go for it.
