86 Cherokee Wagoneer limited
Hey when I was dropping my 95 xj off for new rear shocks at the local garage I saw an 86 wagoneer limited in the back lot. I can probably get it dirt cheap and was wondering what your thoughts were on it. Thanks

being the 'high-end' Cherokee.. it more than likely is equipped with a 2.8 V-stink with a A-904/994. Not exactly the most desirable drivetrain. And a better than average chance you got the NP 228 full-time transfer case.

Its not a 231...
Are you sure it had a part time???
The 228 was patterned like a 242. 2wd-4wd full-4wd Part-N-4Lo.
If it is a part time, its a NP 207. Which like the 231 is a part time lightweight transfer case. There isn't any real deficiency in the case, but it doesn't have an aftermarket following.

I would at least do a 3.4L conversion. Give you power a little closer to what the 4.0L Renix system makes.
I think that there is a performance head off a 3.1L that can give you power numbers like the 4.0L H.O. engine.
My S10 has the 2.8L, and it will get the job done, but it is a pretty weak motor.
