Are 5 tire rotations worth the money.
Looking at buying a new set of tires before the summer is over. Either will get 225/70 General at2 or 235/75 Discoverer at3. Really no price difference between the two. No lift and not planning on it. At most it will get new shocks and leaf springs. Drivingis mostly highway with a couple miles of gravel daily. Winter and deer season will see the gravel driving increase exponentially. Along with potential for deep snow.
Which tire do you think would be better suited and is the extra money for a fifth tire to rotate in worth the extra $130 or so dollars.

Don't know about the tires, but the spare, if you're not wheeling much at all, I'd keep the donut in the back & just buy 4 tires. I always buy 5 for my trail rig, but never for my DD's.

Wouldn't rotating in a 5th tire not make any sense? You will have one tire who's tread wear won't be anything like the others.

In theory every time you rotate 1 in and 1 out they will be close enough where won't matter. After a while all the miles will even out. So after 5 rotations you would have driven 30000 miles but your tires would only have 24000 if you rotate every 6000. So in theory your tires would last more miles. Whether or not that is worth the extra money for the fifth tire is what I'm after.

I'm not a fan of reversing the rotation of a radial tire. I know that is dated thinking, but I have seen certain brands of tires separate after changing the direction of rotation.
