4.5" rc leaf spring help

4.5" rc leaf spring help
So I've been fighting for hrs to get these springs in. I can't seem to get the axle to move ahead enough to get the centre pin in the hole on the spring perch. I just noticed their is a secon hole in the main leaf that is about two inches further back what hole am I supposed to use?
