4.0 HO How much is it worth?
Hey guys, I just made the account, but I've been to CFs on occasion to look up info for fixing my 94 XJ. Which is what brings me to take the plunge with an account here.
Like the title says it's the 4.0 HO and I am trying to get a ballpark on what the engine, and to some extent, what the jeep is worth as a whole. AFAIK It has been a Minnesota Jeep all its life with little or no protection from the winters, as a result the body and floor are more rust than metal. The floor is bad enough that we used some 1/4" thick plastic on the passenger side to keep some of the wind out. It is a 2 Door Sport, all the glass is unbroken except the windshield has a pea sized crack. I don't know when it happened but it hasn't gotten worse. Tranny is the 5-Speed
The engine though is a common story though, it it currently sitting at 224K Miles on it, and is plenty reliable. Has and Am-soil oil filter on it currently and had oil in it for a stint, but the stuff isnt cheap and my wallet couldn't dish the cash for it any more. It Also has a block heater since it was a Bemidji State daily driver.
TL;DR
4.0 HO 224K miles outlasted the body, How much can i expect to get for it.

Few hundred at the most for the engine with that kind of mileage on it.. Probably not worth the effort in pulling it and putting it up for sale. I'd just scrap the whole thing and be done with it. Pullapart here locally gives around $400 for a complete running vehicle.

I sold my engine this spring with 170,000 miles on it and no valve cover/oil pan/harmonic balancer/ oil filter adapter etc for 500$ after doing my Stroker. Took awhile (1.5 months) but it went. Just remember when they haggle that any JY is going to charge more than that weather it runs or not and a rebuilt is around 1600$.
The most annoying thing was the 100s of people calling to see if it would work in their WJs/JKs.
Ide pull the valuable stuff- I made about 1000 of another Jeep my wife blew the engine just from parts... Just takes time, work and patience. If you don't have that, Just scrap it.
